About The Deaf Northwest

Deafzoom Media Production LLC created Deaf Northwest News of Yahoo group in March 5, 2002 and grew over than 1,300 members as today. Chad Ludwig and Lester Morris decided to create such a Deaf Northwest news website in 2005.  Deaf Northwest News expand to Word Press, Twitter, YouTube and Vimeo in 2007. Deaf Northwest news joined in Facebook profile grew over than 2,300 members and  also Deaf Northwest news's Fan in Facebook to grew over than 600 members.

The original moderator, Lester Morris, had been distributing Northwest news service covers 5 states, including Alaska, Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Montana. Deaf Northwest is located in Renton, WA, just outside of Seattle, Washington.

In 2003, Community Service Center Deaf and Hard of Hearing in Seattle, Washington shutdown the center and to closed CSCDHH of Yahoo group to give all newsletters and members to Deaf Northwest News of Yahoo group. Chad Ludwig joined to be co-moderator.  Lester wanted a more centralized place to put his advertising, news, information, jobs, classifieds, event calendar and NW directory in website and Chad wanted a centralized place for all deaf related news in yahoo group and update from organizations and Services.

In March 2008, Chad leave from Deaf Northwest News to moved to East for his new job. Lester was remained to run Deaf Northwest News of Yahoo group and website. I met Karen Atwood and Lee Kelley who were interesting to join in Deaf Northwest news team in October 2009.  Karen and Lee are running the co-moderators in Deaf Northwest News of Yahoo group and Lester is remain to run this advertising, website and Facebook/twitter/word press.

Our team will build more update features in Deaf Northwest news of Yahoo group and website in this future.

More specifically we wanted to resolve the problem which was what is going on elsewhere. For example, you may be considering a vacation trip to Northwest area but wanted to know what was happening in any Northwest area next month. You can check Deafnorthwest.com and click on ASL Community Calendar/Information/Jobs and make your plans according to what is being promoted in Northwest area.

For the members of the Deafnorthwest.com, you can select what news you want to see and how you want to see it. You can get the news individually or digest in Deaf Northwest news of Yahoo group or in website or Word Press/Facebook/Twitter. You can choose all news or just your local news. Currently we are improving the public calendar. What you want to see at a specific location, locally, or everything.

Any of the moderators, reporters/photographers/videographers in your Northwest area, Vlog newscasters and web editors that want to join or move to Deafnorhwest.com are more than welcome to join us. About The Deaf Northwest Team

Greeting from Lester Morris

Owner/moderator/editor/photographer/videographer of Deaf Northwest, I grew up in California whole my life until moved to Seattle since 1995.

My family and friend influence me to become Photographer that I fell in love to have photography for nature, people and much more. I enrolled to National Technology Institute of the Deaf/Rochester Institute Technology in Rochester, N.Y. and Ohlone College in Fremont, California to take Photography and Graphic course. I traveled some countries and around in America to shoot the photography.  I received Photojournalist award from National Geographic in 1980’s. I work short time with Eastern Kodak and Trek Photographic Machine in Ohio.

I was young boy and my mom’s brought me to meet her friend anchorman or newscaster for Radio stations and He taught me a lot about radio stations for news, sports and tour etc.  I don’t speak 100 percent yet but I love to read the news and etc.

I have been involved different local deaf clubs, state association organizations in California such as member, sports and officers in different positions. Last year I was end of term Treasurer and Elected Trustee (2 yrs) for Washington State Association of the Deaf. Now I still currently with Tacoma Bowling Association of the Deaf as Chairperson for host the Northwest Bowling Association of the Deaf this year and committee of Annual Community Picnic for the Deaf, Deaf-Blind and Hard of Hearing every June.

I am currently as Deaf Specialist to bring attention of the rights of the Deaf & Hard of Hearing in United Parcel Service to the Washington and national negotiation table in ADA and Bates vs. UPS legal. I also currently am running in Deaf UPS News’ in Facebook group.

And now here to I am running this Deaf Northwest News and I am exciting to have our new co-moderators into team!!! “Welcome Aboard!”

Deaf Northwest proudly announced 2 new co-moderators/editors, Karen Atwood and Lee Kelley.

To introduce myself as one of the two new co-moderators/editors of Deaf Northwest, I am Karen Atwood, a native of Seattle.  I have done many “firsts” in my life, which leads to who I am today.   To name a few “firsts”: first Miss Deaf Washington queen in 1973; the first longest running woman president of NWRAD; the first woman president of NWAAD [now call NWSAD-softball & NWADB-basketball] and instructional in established women’s sport teams; one of the two Deaf workers to bring attention of the rights of the Deaf & Hard of Hearing postal workers to the national negotiation table in Washington DC with the U.S.P.S. and American Postal Workers Union for better contract rights.  I believe in the power of knowledge and communication and had started the NWRAD and Deaf Postal News’ yahoo group announcements before coming on to Deaf Northwest.  I am exciting to work with Lester Morris and Lee Kelley in getting as much information and announcements out to each and all people from all walks of life and YOU with me!

Hello from Lee Kelley – the other new co-moderator/editor of Deaf Northwest!  “I'm so excited to be able to work with Karen and Lester!  Let me tell u a little about myself. I'm also a native of Seattle.  I graduated from Shorecrest High school and went on to Central Seattle Community College where that opened up a whole new world for me!  I was never involved with sign language prior to college.  Sign Language opened many doors for me and able me to be involved in many organizations. I have worked at the Seattle Hearing, Speech and Deafness Center, Washington Vocational Services and The Lighthouse for the Blind. I've volunteered at ADWAS since they first opened in 1985!  I have also served on the Board for ADWAS and The Deaf Blind Service Center. I hope we all can work together to make this website a success!  We would love any feedback from you!"
